The play Mrichhakatikam is situated in the Ujjain in a period between the third and the fifth century BC. The reference to the king Palaka roughly situates it during the first quarter of the fifth century BC, during the concluding days of pradyota dynasty. The play refers to the rise of Aryaka, the Abhira king and the founding of the Abhira dynasty in seventh century BC, to which Sudraka is believed to have belonged.
