An introduction to Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence

 Meaning- The subject of Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence maybe spelt as follows:-

The word ‘Pharmaceutical’ means a subject which is related to the profession of ‘Pharmacy’.

The Latin word ‘Jurisprudence’ can be split into two words namely a) ‘Juris’ which means “A law or an act or rules and regulations and b) ‘Prudensis’ or ‘Prudentiae’ which means “Knowledge”, “A science” or “Philosophy” and thereby the actual meaning of “Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence” is about acquiring or learning or possessing the knowledge or science and philosophy of various Laws, Acts, Rules and Regulations related to the profession of Pharmacy. 

Definition- Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence is a subject in Pharmacy Course in which we learn and acquire the knowledge of different laws or acts or rules and regulations related to the profession of Pharmacy, most of which are implemented by the central government and certain acts implemented by the concerned State Governments and the Union Territories.

When a student acquires thorough knowledge of these laws and acts shall make him perfectly aware of what is right/legal and what is wrong/illegal as per the provisions of various acts so that when he/she enters into the profession of Pharmacy he/she :-

A- Shall not commit any offence or illegal activities for which he/she maybe punished

B- Shall see to it that only the best and standard quality drugs are manufactured and supplied to the patients

C- Shall not encourage any others to commit any offence or illegal activities.

D- Shall also be in a position to advice and suggest fellow Pharmacists to follow the Rules And Regulations relating to the profession of Pharmacy

E- Shall see to it that he/she becomes a law abiding citizen and the best Pharmacist.

D- Excise Duties Act

E- Drugs Price Control Order etc
